M7 Weapon Rack  – The M7, previously designated as the XM7, is the U.S. Army variant of the SIG MCX Spear, a 6.8×51mm (.277 in), gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle. Designed by SIG Sauer to replace the M4 carbine with the Army transitioning away from the M4 platform.

This change from M4 variants to the M7 will lead to units needing new weapon racks as legacy weapon rack systems have minimal adjustability, require custom brackets for new weapons and have less storage capacity per weapon rack.

The M7 is issued standard with a suppressor attached, making it longer than the M4 and requiring more vertical clearance between tiers of vertical storage in each weapon rack. At 36″ L, the M7 represents a weapon in between an M16 and M4 in length. Removing the suppressor would reduce the overall length of the M7 but could take significant time to do so with each issuance.

Optics or lights attached to the side of the Picatinny rail system would require the M7 to be double spaced inside of weapon racks.

M7 Weapon Rack

The M7 assault rifle, previously known as the XM7 is the United States Army variant of the SIG MCX Spear, a 6.8×51mm (.277 in), gas-operated, magazine-fed, assault rifle designed by firearms manufacturer SIG Sauer for the Next Generation Squad Weapon Program in 2022 to replace the U.S. Army M4 carbine.

The Next Generation Squad Weapon-Rifle (NGSW-R) is a U.S. military project aimed at developing a new standard-issue rifle for the U.S. Army and potentially other branches of the military. The NGSW-R program began in the late 2010s to replace the current M4 carbine and M16 rifle platforms used by U.S. soldiers.

M7s are stored double-tiered inside full-height Combat Weapon Racks. They can be stored in single tier stackable weapon racks and also be stored in a mid-tier height weapon rack.
